The official National Mall Dayplanner says "annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival" and "rally by a religious group" (no details on which religious group, but it’s not this one).

So now Gore’s looking to the front lawn of the U.S. Capitol building. And he’s using his political sway (yeah, he’s still got it) to help make it happen.

Gore-friend Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (Nev.) and Republican Sen. Olympia Snowe (Maine) have intro’d a Senate resolution offering the Capitol grounds for the event. The resolution would also have to pass in the House.

FedEx Field, a nearby football stadium, is also an option, a National Parks spokesdude suggested, but it would only hold about a fifth of the 500,000 people expected to attend.

In addition to D.C., other Live Earth concert sites include Shanghai, Sydney, Johannesburg, and London. Cities have yet to be chosen for Brazil and Japan. Oh, and Antarctica.
