The bird getting gulped here is, appropriately, a swallow, and the swallower is an African species called the tigerfish. The tigerfish has long been known to be a stupendous badass — but the BBC says this is the first video evidence of one of these fish, or any freshwater fish, bagging a bird in flight.

That’s nature for you, though: counterintuitive, alarming, and full of very scary mouths.
