This teeny weeny deerlet, part of an endangered species called the southern pudú, was born at Queens Zoo in New York a few months ago. (The Wildlife Conservation Society just announced the birth; apparently they’ve been hiding the deer away since May 3, trying to hog all the cuteness for themselves.)

Apparently pudús, which are the world’s smallest type of deer, “bark when they sense danger and can climb fallen trees,” which is strange and charming.
The little darling weighed a pound at birth, but she may weigh as much as 20 pounds when fully grown — so, like, about as much as a pug — and she’ll be about a foot tall. Dik dik, this baby is coming for your title of World’s Most Precious Cervid.
