Two thousand calories is about the FDA-recommended daily intake for an adult — but what does that really look like? Well, it looks like 285 almonds … or 16 bananas … or seven bagels … or two and a half Cinnabons.
It’s a pretty sobering video — only six and a half avocados to make up 2,000 calories? (Only three Cobb salads from Cosi??) But it also made me kind of feel less inclined to yell at people for choosing fast food over fresh produce. If I had limited time and budget, I suspect it would not escape my notice that my family would feel more psychologically satisfied with four hamburgers than with 60 carrots, even if I knew that the calories were the same.
