Hey there! Starting this week, we’re running a special miniseries in Looking Forward. Our next three issues will feature profiles of local climate activists written by young journalists based in their areas, and published in collaboration with YR Media, Grist, and Next City.
Each of these stories shows an individual’s journey to becoming an agent of change in their community — driven by curiosity, compassion, and a desire to build a better world for the people and places they love. Today’s newsletter shares the story of Jonshell Johnson-Whitten, a community farmer and advocate in New Orleans’s Lower Ninth Ward, written and photographed by YR Media reporter Alexis T. Reed, who works with nonprofit news initiative Lede New Orleans and is a Gilman Scholarship program ambassador.
The vision
