We’ve written before about Jason deCaires Taylor, who builds realistic underwater sculptures for the local sea life to gradually turn into teeming underwater cities. But apparently the local sea life now wants yards and HOAs and property values, because his latest work is an ocean-floor suburban neighborhood.

Grist thanks its sponsors. Become one.

Like Taylor’s previous work, the somewhat misleadingly titled “Urban Reef” was designed specifically to be squatted in by fish, crabs, eels, and other critters. Each house has features that appeal to a wide range of species, which means these suburban bungalows will soon be home to all kinds of unlikely roommates. We can’t wait for the premiere of The Real World: 25 Feet Underwater in Cancun.
