On a local news program today, Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann was asked about her statement on Friday that she is “very concerned” that Barack Obama “may have anti-American views.” Bachmann denied saying it.
“I feel his views are concerning. I’m calling on the media to investigate them. I’m not saying that his views are anti-American,” said Bachmann. “That was a misreading of what I said. And so I don’t believe that’s my position. I’m calling on the media to take a look at what his views are.”
She went on to argue that one of the views that should be looked at is Obama’s plan to enact a “tremendous climate change tax that will cost us $40 trillion.” Here’s the video, via Think Progress:
It’s not clear where she pulled that number from, and the reporter didn’t bother to follow up by asking what she thinks about Sen. John McCain’s plan to also put a price on carbon, which according to Bachmann’s logic might possibly make him “anti-American” too.
Bachmann is also known for her campaign against compact fluorescent light bulbs, claiming that Congress doesn’t need to worry about saving the planet because “someone did that over 2,000 years ago,” and for arguing that oil pipelines are good because they have become a meeting place and “coffee klatch” for caribou.
