Back in February, we added three journalism fellows to the Grist ranks: Amber Cortes, Samantha Larson, and Eve Andrews. Their six-month terms just wrapped up — and we couldn’t be happier with the results.
These three rock-star writers produced high-level stories from the jump. Eve dove deep into the obsessive world of tiny houses and somehow got us to co-sign on a story about Tinder and climate change. Samantha examined the power of collective intelligence and fired up the fan base with her “What type of environmentalist are you?” quiz. Amber documented a Native American tribe’s fight against Big Coal in striking color and created slick infographics. There are too many more great stories to name here, but one thing is for certain: We learned a ton from this fine group.
We also hope the fellows picked up a thing or two from us (learning about journalism and media is after all the point of the program). To find out, we asked the Fab Three to recount some of their most important learning lessons. See what Amber, Samantha, and Eve had to say in the video above.
