The McCain campaign says he’ll debate tonight after all. After that he’ll fly back to D.C. to continue his oh-so-helpful role in the negotiations over the financial bailout.
Meanwhile, this morning Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said:
“A few days ago, I called on Sen. McCain to take a stand — let us know where he stands on the issue — in this bailout,” Reid told reporters at the Capitol. “But all he has done is stand in front of the cameras. We still don’t know where he stands on the issue.” … “The time is now for House Republicans to come to the negotiating table and for presidential politics to leave the negotiating table,” Reid said. “The insertion of presidential politics has not been helpful. I repeat: The insertion of presidential politics has not been helpful. It’s been harmful.”
UPDATE: Oh, and I forgot to mention, in other (!) news, this morning saw the largest bank failure in U.S. history. Whee!
UPDATE: Looks like McCain already won the debate — before it even started! Now that is mavericky.
