Even if you haven’t been paying attention to major events in the news lately, you still might have picked up on two things.

  1. There’s a huge, ongoing oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and BP is bungling it up taking the heat for it.
  2. The rest of the planet is obsessed with the World Cup and the long plastic horns (used for cheering or irritating, depending on how you feel about them) known as vuvuzelas.

It was only a matter of time before those two things converged, and we have Adam Quirk to thank for that.

He’s putting together a tongue-in-cheek, crowd-funded protest to buy and blow 100+ vuvuzelas all day long in front of BP’s London headquarters.

“Anyone who pledges $10 gets the satisfaction of knowing you just bought a vuvuzela that will undoubtedly frustrate some smug oil baron,” writes Quirk.

Half of the money will go toward purchasing and shipping the horns and the other half will go toward the Center for Biological Diversity’s Gulf Disaster Fund. Quirk’s project has already surpassed its goal of $2,000, but that means more vuvuzelas (and donations) to go around!

Maybe he could import the South African Vuvuzela Philharmonic Orchestra?
